I know there are artists out there that have always wanted to come to one of the ARTzona Artist Retreats, but have yet to make the pilgrimage for one reason or another… I’ve decided, since this will be the last ARTzona Retreat for quite a while, I would like to entice you with this:

If you register for the Retreat between now and January 15th, 2015, I will reduce the registration fee to $100.00 instead of $125.00. Registration fee covers the Welcome Reception, 24 hour art room, Saturday afternoon treats, and all classes/demonstrations on Saturday! A STEAL ANY WAY YOU LOOK AT IT!!!
And to make it even that much easier for you, here is a link to the registration page on our website.!registration/cobp

RE: The Last ARTzona Artist Retreat

So after much consideration, I have decided that the 2015 ARTzona Artist Retreat scheduled for next month, will be the LAST ARTzona Artist Retreat! At least for a few years. It takes an immense amount of time, effort, and financial responsibility to host this event each year. An event that does not generate ANY money for ARTzona or myself. If anything, it costs me money to host.

I do it because I love being surrounded by the amazing group of artists that come each year from all over the globe. I do it because it seems to be the highlight of the year for many who attend. I do it because it is a ton of fun to be in the presence of so many talented and friendly artists. I always look forward to spending time with old friends and making new friends at each event. It’s 10 months of work, for 4 days of fun, and the retreat seems to go by far too quickly every year.

But I need a break from the retreats. I want to take ARTzona in a direction that will promote developing artistic skills for artists of all ages and skill levels. I want to start the figure drawing classes again, and start offering BYOB classes and offer various classes to adults and kids again. And canceling the annual retreat for a while will allow time to pursue these other endeavors.

I want to thank everyone who has ever attended an ARTzona Retreat, and thank all those people that have helped make it a huge success each year. And I especially want to thank all of our amazing sponsors who have donated such great art supplies for goodie bags, classes, and door prizes! Their generosity makes it even that much more exciting and fun to be apart of ARTzona.

I look forward to seeing everyone in February. Bittersweet as it may be.

XO ~ Trina

For the Early Birds

With so many artists arriving on Thursday I wanted to reiterate the Thursday evening plans.   If you are planning to join us for the Thursday hike at Usery Park, please plan to meet in the lobby of the Hyatt at 4:30 pm.   Note that this is earlier than 6 pm which was the original tentative time.  We will likely be at the park until sunset, at which time we will head to dinner and then to Scottsdale for the art walk that runs from 7-9 pm.

If you would like to meet up for dinner, we can always return to the Hyatt before heading to dinner to collect more people, then head to Scottsdale from there.   Or if you have your own dinner plans, but still want to meet up with us for the art walk, then plan to meet at the horse statue on 5th avenue at 7 o’clock.

Looking forward to the fun!  See you in a few days!

Quick Reminder

The SHOW Girls and I will be in the art room setting up Thursday afternoon.  We would greatly appreciate it if no one other than the SHOW Girls goes into the room for any reason o Thursday.   That includes dropping off at supplies and picking out your seat.  We will be busy arranging the room for fabulousness and want you to be surprised when you walk in at 9 am on Friday morning.

The art room will NOT be open to attendees until 9 am Friday morning.  At which time you may you may bring in your supplies and choose your space for the weekend!  So sleep in, enjoy your complimentary breakfast, visit to your hearts content, and be ready to bust down the doors at 9 am on Friday morning!

Keep in mind, you are welcome to go in and out of the art room to your hearts content for the remainder of the weekend!   The doors will be locked during the wee hours of night, but if you are an early riser, then feel free to let the front desk know that you are with ARTzona and would like to get into the room to start creating.  I will be in the guest room next door to the art room, so for any reason if you have troubles getting in the art room, just come let me know.

ARTzona 10 Day Forecast is for AWESOME!!!

Hello fellow enthusiastic artists!   No doubt you’re all getting as excited as I am for next weeks event!  If you are anything like me you’re scrambling to decide what to bring and can barely sleep because your thinking of all the fun you will be having by this time next week.

For those of you traveling from far and wide, I thought you would like to know that the forecast is for sunshine and temperatures in the mid 70’s for the next week or more!  In other words, it will be absolutely LOVELY for your stay in Mesa, Arizona this time around!  So be sure to bring your sunscreen, bathing suit, and flip flops!  Still a good idea to bring a sweater, as the evenings and early mornings will still be chilly and only in the 40’s.

Also want to remind you that the Hyatt has revamped their entire swimming pool area!  They now have a 12 person Jacuzzi, surround sound with a big screen TV and plenty of lounge seating for sun bathing.   So when you need  little break, be sure to hit the pool area and soak up some vitamin D while you’re here.

Here is  link to the 10 day forecast to better help you plan your packing needs.

See you all this time next week!

Cheers ~ Trina

Post-ARTzona Activities

Part of the reason that the Hyatt Place in Mesa was chosen, was because of the area and all of the restaurants and entertainment there.  As previously mentioned, the Hyatt has a shuttle that can take you anywhere within a 5 mile radius.  The shuttle is on a first come first serve basis. You can sign up a day or 2 ahead to reserve a ride, and its been recommended to sign up early.  Keep in mind are the shuttle can only carry 7 people at a time and stops running at 10 pm at night.  If you plan to be out past 10 pm, area taxi phone numbers will be available.  And remember that some attendees will have their own vehicles that you can bum a ride with as well.

Jennie was kind enough to research and put together a list of possibilities that are all within a 5 mild radius of the Hyatt.  Here are just some of the options for your convenience:

Casino Arizona– exactly 5 miles
The casino has slots, table games, bingo and keno, as well as 5 restaurants. It also has different promotions and entertainment, but they haven’t posted their January events yet.

Bookmans– hours- 9am- 10pm everyday – 4.6 miles

Bookmans is so much more than a used book store. It buys and sells books, DVDs, CDs, records, games, craft materials, and bric-a-brac. They also have different events however January isn’t yet posted.

An open air mall being within a mile or 2 of Arizona State University, Tempe Market Place has great restaurants, Movie Theaters and shopping.

Michael’s – within walking distance from the Hyatt.
Need to replenish your art supplies? Michael’s is here to solve your dilemma. Open 9 am to 9 pm Monday- Saturday and 10 am to 7pm on Sunday.

Massage Envy

Need a relaxing massage or facial before you head home?  Massage Envy is located in Tempe market place. Open 8am to 10pm everyday- Appointments are recommended- 480-446-3689

Harkins Tempe Marketplace 16 Theater  –

Theater has the latest cinema offerings. 15 standard size theaters and one theater called Cine Capri boasts the pinnacle of motion picture presentation with a huge 30’x70’ screen, and the very best in projection and sound technology. I never want to see another movie anywhere else.

Hungry?  With almost 30 restaurants, 12 of which have various Happy Hours, there should be something to delight you.  Look for coupon books available in January.

It’s within walking distance of the hotel, if you don’t mind walking a mile, or use the hotel shuttle. Need some art materials; Joann Fabrics, Arts and Crafts- Open 9 am to 9 pm Monday- Saturday and 10 am to 7pm on Sunday.

Cinemark Mesa 16 – the latest cinema offerings.
